School

This topic is about the rights and responsibilities of students at schools and including information about when the student can leave the school and information about school rules.

Searches and confiscations
Students have the right to own property but the property shouldn't be against the law. possession of some items, such as prohibited weapons or drugs is illegal a police officer can take these items without their consent.

Can a teacher search the student
A teacher has no legal right to search the student or the school bag unless the student agrees to be searched . if  teachers have concern about safety of other students , they can search the student without permission . Parents can not give permission for a teacher to search the students unless the student is so young that can not make a decision . the only people who have the right to search the students for drugs are the police.
School uniform
schools do not have to have uniforms. in some schools wearing the uniform is not compulsory but the principle is responsible for the management and control of the school and must consult with parents, teachers and students about the standards expected of students and these include uniforms. If some parents can not afford the cost ,the school is obliged to assist them by organizing a clothing pool to ensure that the students are able to attend school.Each school can make reasonable rules for the good order of the school and the discipline of students. If the students refuse to wear a uniform The strategies devised by the school community for breaches of school discipline will be exercised and include:
  • Warnings
  • Individual behaviour contracts
  • Involving the student’s parents
  • Taking away privileges
  • Education
  • Detention or extra work (in extreme circumstances)
  • Suspension (only after every other discipline strategy has been tried and the student has been cautioned).
There are some rules about uniform that students should know :
  • Teachers can not send the student home before the end of the school day.
  •  If students have a scar or physical disability which they are sensitive about, they should be allowed to wear long trousers, a long skirt or be excused from other dress rules.
  • A school can insist the student wear their uniform on school visits during school hours.
Truancy
children should attend school between the ages of 6 to 15.Parents have the responsibility to ensure that children go to the school each day.If student do not attend school when they should ,this is called Truancy. sometimes students do not have to attend school. This includes when:

  • are unable to attend because of sickness, danger of infection, or an accident;
  • have been granted a Certificate of Exemption by the Minister for Education;
  • are attending a registered correspondence school or are participating in a special program approved by the Minister for Education;
  • are registered with the Board of Studies as a home school student; or
  • have been expelled or suspended from school
When can people leave the school ?
Students have to go to school from the age 6-15.To leave the school before year 10 , student need to get the permission from the minister of education.
